The We Live It team has put together five simple and helpful tips that will help you to reduce your next electricity bill. While you may not be able to acheive all five each small change makes a difference to your energy bill and the environment we all share.
1. Convert your incandescent & halogen light bulbs to energy efficient LED light bulbs.
LED technology has a come a long way in recent years and now LED light bulbs can produce the same quality of light that premium halogens produce for about a fifth of the power. We recommend the Brightgreen and Starlux ranges, both of which are very popular with our customers.
2. Use energy meters to keep track of how much electricity you are using.
Using an energy meter to track how much electricity you are using helps you decide which energy hungry appliances need to take a break. You’ll be amazed at just how much some non essential appliances are costing you. Todae stocks the A+ Intelligent Power Meter which shows the user electricity usage in real time.
3. Unplug appliances at the wall when possible.
While it might not be all that much a lot of appliances still use electricity while turned off and plugged in. Appliances with ‘Stand-by’ mode are the biggest culprits; so when possible unplug the appliances that you aren’t using this minute. It might not start as much but the savings will soon add up.
4. When possible go without the Air-conditioner or Heater.
When you’re hot try finding a breeze and or use an electric fan over the air-conditioner and when it’s cold put on another layer of clothing before you crank up the heating. But sometimes you need the air-con or heating and we get that, but hopefully this way you’ll enjoy the luxury even more.
5. Switch to low consumption appliances.
Though the initial investment might seem a bit expensive, by switching to energy efficient appliances such as dryers, refrigerators, and washing machines you could save a lot of electricity and money in the long run. All appliances sold in Australia should come with an energy rating out of 5 stars, try to aim for the highest star rating within your budget and specifications for the best return on investment.
