The story of how Finska came to Australia
Planet Finska was started by two Sydney dads, Pete and Tim, who will play anything. They are dedicated to bringing unique and quality, classic games to the Australian market from around the world. Their love of the outdoors and their fun competitive spirits led them to falling in love with Finska when their Finnish friend brought the game back from Finland in 2009. Pete says their "first game at Manly beach, led to a rematch, another re-match.... before we knew it we'd been playing for two hours!"
Pete and Tim were surprised to find out that the game wasn't available in Australia, a country with an easy going competitive spirit, a fantastic climate and a love for the outdoors. They set about to produce the game themselves which they thought was "a fabulous antidote to the antisocial electronic gizmos that keep kids indoors and it wasn't something for just kids as well."
Planet Finska is committed to making sustainable products that use our planet's resources wisely. They are about custom-designed, well made, unique and traditional games from around the world that will stand the test of time. They want their customers, their families, their friends to enjoy the games for years. Planet Finska care about the quality of the timber their games are made from and that it should come from sustainable sources. Pete says Planet Finska "believe in no plastic, no batteries!"
Finska is also extremely popular with NSW Primary Schools (now played in more than 100 schools) as the game requires the students to practice their arithmetic skills and strategise. The kids are having fun while they are improving their maths skills and taking part in a physical activity. Pete calls it "education by stealth!"
